Terrain Tuesday - Terrain Detail Levels

For wargaming, there can be varying levels of detail put into setting up the table with terrain.  Fairly typical of many gamers, over on gamewire.belloflostsouls.net, check out the "Wargaming terrain set by Gamemat.eu" here.

Also, on etsy.com, you can find some examples of simple scatter terrain in the AtelesGamerCrafts shop here.

Finally, on instagram.com, you might take inspiration from how an architect might portray terrain here.

Terrain Tuesday - Tabletop Workshop Show (DK)

There is a YouTube channel for Tabletop Workshop that seems utterly unrelated to the UK Tabletop Workshop (Enigma Design Studios).  The latter may or may not be defunct but they made wonderful hard plastic buildings and terrain.  The former is the effort of a German-speaking hobbyist whose sense of humor comes across even with the language barrier.  My own limited remembrances of High School-learned German does little for me in this context since none of what happens in the videos I have watched take place in a Bibliothek nor involve going to the water closet.  As evidence, check out what I take to be the channel's origin story.

After stumbling across the channel and being able to see it was a fellow crafter making buildings for tabletop games in 28 mm scale, I figured I would watch that first video above.  That convinced me that I should see if I could follow one of the regular videos with actual crafting, so I watched the second on making a Dark Age Hut.

Well, since the second video ever made was the first of two parts, I felt compelled to watch the third video, part two of the Dark Age Hut build.  I gained enough from it to watch more and will keep up with any new videos as well, and perhaps brush up on my German while I am at it!

Terrain Tuesday - Patreon & Terrain Tips

Over on patreon.com a number of terrain tipsters have supplemented what they make building custom terrain by throwing out a virtual tip jar in the form of Patreon sponsorship.  This allows folks who like to view their videos and benefits from their tutorials the chance to pay a little back to these fine creators.  One of my personal favorites, as one can imagine from reading my Terrain Tuesday blog posts, is TerranScapes here.

One of the newer kids on the block is 3T-Studios here.

But one can go to the website and search by Terrain to find all manner of creators worthy of sponsorship here.

Terrain Tuesday - Terrain Tips 2013

Sometimes it helps to look back a few years at earlier terrain videos from the folks who put out the great videos who have helped us over the years.  Dream Spirit Wargaming drops a handful of videos on us from time to time and back in 2013 they shared "Tools of the Trade: How to texture a gaming surface."  Enjoy!

Also, Tinker Terrain has been quiet lately but they got some great videos to watch including this "Pink Foam Tutorial for Wargaming Terrain and Scratch Build Models."  Check it out!

Finally, few folks produce as many tutorials as Mike from TerranScapes, and they are all excellent and well worth the time for all the detail included.  Have a look at this gem from 2013 titled "TerranScapes - Q&A #7 - Wargame Terrain Tips."

Terrain Tuesday - Gallipoli Terrain

Yesterday, for "Minis & Modeling Monday," I featured "Peter Jackson's Massive Gallipoli Diorama" which might have seemed like a blog post better suits to today's "Terrain Tuesday" section, but it was done to show the massive amount and range of minis that could be used if one wanted to portray the true scale of that year-long campaign.  The Gallipoli Campaign ran from February 19, 1915 through January 9, 1916, and 2016 being the one hundred year anniversary of its ending is why it is drawing a bit of extra attention.  I thought today that I might focus a bit further on the terrain that could be used to recreate some of the battle sequences from that campaign.  First up, from mylardiesgames.blogspot.com and posted in 2012, a pile of pictures of "Gallipoli Campaign # 1 - Red Beach" here.

Also, on beastsofwar.com, some photos of the "Gallipoli Masterpiece by Wargames Illustrated [for] Salute 2011" here.

Finally, on TheBeastsOfWar YouTube channel, some video of that same terrain exists and gives an even better impression of the possibilities.  Enjoy!
