The Sunday Miscellanea - RPG Tables and Rooms

Probably everyone has heard of Geek Chic furniture for gamers.  But how many know of Hammered Game Tables of River Falls, WI?  Check them out here.

Also, on acaeum.com, a thread on a very wonderful game room has been collecting admirers for half a decade here.

Finally, I mentioned this at the time but I was kindly invited out over Christmas for lunch, gaming, and a grand tour of this excellent game space that is Alex Kammer's GameHole, upstairs from the The Free House Pub in Madison, WI.  It features a tremendous collection of unique gaming items including Monte Cook's old custom RPG table.  See all the pictures I took on Facebook here and Google Plus here.

Wargaming Wednesday - Wargaming on a Budget by Iain Dickie (Book, 2010)

I recently picked up a copy of Wargaming on a Budget by Iain Dickie on one of my Half Price Books forays.  I often snag the gaming books from the UK when I see them in HPB and have found some real gems here and there.  The reviews I spotted on Amazon about this book left me wondering if it was worthwhile, as they generally suggested the advice within was either outdated or not detailed enough for anyone who wasn't just starting out in the hobby.  But at the six dollar price I was going to pay, I felt it was a risk I could take.  It's very rare not to come across a new way to look at problems or find more elegant solutions and approaches to hobby gaming even in the most basic book.  As I work through it, I'll be sure to pass on any new advice or innovations I encounter.  It can be checked out on Amazon here, although the copy I have has a different cover as seen below.

Over Da Top Gaming Website

Let me take a moment to point toward a fun blog for those who might enjoy "A Blog of Tournaments, Painting, Terrain, and Podcasts about Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Over Da Top Gaming claims to take gaming to the extreme with conversions and painting to test the limits of miniature warfare!" Chuck Jiardina, who runs the blog, has been at it for over half a decade, so there is plenty of back reading to do for those who are new to it. See more here!

Mashing Up the Tabletop

I was asked recently about the artillery pieces used for the Surcoat games set up for Gary Con IV, the EN World Chicago Gameday XXI, and other events.  Some were gathered from a Knights and Castle toy set picked up at Hobby Lobby while others came from the Battleground: Crossbows and Catapults game.  Here's some pics detailing the origins of those pieces.
