Say Anything on Wil Wheaton's Tabletop

Over on the Geek and Sundry YouTube channel is a review and play-through of the rather interesting game Say Anything.  It's a "party game" but has some interesting mechanics which combine a sort of communal trivia and pop culture references but includes an improvisational element along with persuasion and humor that could be a good exercise for tabletop RPGers.  Enjoy!

Essay on the Wargaming Industry

There are a couple of particularly interesting essays on the history of the wargaming industry, and the tabltop gaming industry in general, that give some details about our hobby that many will find fascinating.  I know I did, even though much of what is in them was familiar to me.  I think having those details put into context helped me take a new look at how things have unfolded in a new light.  So check out "The Fall of Avalon Hill" from Peter L. de Rosa (written in the late Nineties) and "SPI Died for your Sins" from Greg Costikyan (written in 1996).  Both very good reads.

RayFrakked

The developer of a new video game called RayFrakked is trying to gather some playtesters.  In his own words, as posted on EN World.org -

I've been looking for betatesters for a computer game I'm developing, RayFrakked. While doing so, it occurred to me where I could find one of the largest bunch of gamers on the net. Gamers that know how to pick apart a game to it's basic rules and make a game designer sob in the corner while rocking gently back an forth. Rayfrakked is a massively single player puzzle game, allowing players to not only play to solve puzzles, but to also make your own puzzles and inflict them on people who might have otherwise been your friends. We're a small publishing house, consisting of... me. One of the things I could really use are people to look over the game, test and comment. If you're interested in helping out, you can email me at rayfrakked@gmail.com

Gamers: The Next Generation

Just a quick shout out to the Valle family to thank them for joining in the fun at the EN World Chicago Gameday 30 last weekend.  I found out just how much fun they had at the Surcoat Medieval Fantasy Combat Minatures Game in the morning when Richard posted on Facebook to let everyone know that once they got home his two boys got right to work on their own system.  They plundered the family set of Memoir 44 for terrain and figures then created rules for movement, attack and defense factors.  Good on you, Valle family, for taking tabletop miniatures gaming into the future!
