Wild West Campaign at Games Plus
The most excellent Jeff Swegler is starting up a Wild West campaign over at Games Plus in Mount Prospect, IL, and I'm looking at putting together a Lawmen faction. We'll be using the Warhammer Historical Wargames Ltd rules Legends of the Old West. After a little practice round the other night, I realized I needed a little more diversity, so aside from fielding a Sheriff and a couple of Deputies, I trimmed down the weaponry so I could add a member of the citizenry to the mix, though I might even add a few more once I get a little further in the campaign (IF I get further!) and have a bit more money to spend. I'm currently using some figures from the grab-a-few box, though I plan to get some of my own and paint them up. I did, however, pick up a citizen in the form of a Reaper Chronoscope 50155 "Mickey O'Doul, Wild West Bartender" which I think looks pretty cool. Here's a photo of the rule books, the new figure, and some shots from the practice round we all got to play the other night. Incidentally, I ran across some good links for minis and scenery over on blackwatergulch.com that were helpful to me in my surfing. Enjoy!

Mashing Up the Tabletop
I was asked recently about the artillery pieces used for the Surcoat games set up for Gary Con IV, the EN World Chicago Gameday XXI, and other events. Some were gathered from a Knights and Castle toy set picked up at Hobby Lobby while others came from the Battleground: Crossbows and Catapults game. Here's some pics detailing the origins of those pieces.

Rigged Dice for Fun, NOT Profit!
I don't condone the use of rigged dice but I remember a time in the Eighties when one of our DMs used a d20 that was obviously weighted (albeit unintentionally) to TPK the party early and often. At some point, some of our player group discussed what to do about it and one enterprising fellow purchased an identical d20 and made some modifications to it in his workshop. His work was so excellent it could only be discerned as different under very close examination. When it happened that we had a game night on April 1st, we made the switch. It was a glorious night for the player characters, every one of us survived, and it was amazing how many enemies were downed by unfortunate rolls on the DM's rather severe fumble charts. Huzzah!
"Congratulations! Bask in your new-found knowledge. Live long and prosper." That part made the whole video worth it for me. I hope no one feels they've been Rig-Rolled.
